Eye Protection Required

Little E had a rather eventful EYE-OPENING second week at school! Monday turned out to be pretty ordinary, but when E woke up on Tuesday, Mommy noticed that he had a big ol' red blotch on his eyeball just above the colored part of his eye. Despite the alarming redness, E was laid back cool, nothing seemed to be bothering him. But of course Mommy being a brand new at this mommy-gig just wanted to be extra sure all was well with the little man and made a call to his pediatrician, Dr. V. Dr. V was worried E may have scratched his cornea and wanted to ensure that all was well.

So Mommy ran from her office and down to E's school to take him back across town to visit with Dr. V (she is AWESOME for any Richmonders in the market for a pediatrician!). Using an eye-dropper, she placed a florescent yellow dye into his eye and shone a special light to see if there was any sort of abrasion. E was a super star through the entire ordeal. In fact, he opened his mouth thinking that's where the drops would go -- just like his Vitamin D which Mommy gives him every morning! After close examination, Dr. V announced that E was A-OK and must've just scratched his eyeball with his fingers or a toy.

Later in the week, when Mommy went to pick her little one up from school, Aunt Rhonda, one of E's wonderful teachers said there had been an incident. Of course, Mommy's eyes quickly darted to E who was happily gurgling and playing on the floor ... Mommy looked back at Aunt Rhonda confused. On a second look, Mommy saw it -- there was a big ol' scratch just under E's left eye!! And it was pretty raw looking. Apparently, E's older friend Miles, who is not yet walking but climbs up on everything used E's bouncy chair as leverage to get to a standing position. Miles lost his balance as you came to standing and crashed partially on top of E's legs, but on the way down, grabbed for E's face. E was fine though -- Aunt Rhonda said he didn't even cry. It was a relief to know E had survived the rough-housing:) However, she is still going to invest in a pair of goggles for E!!

E is growing so fast. Mommy thinks he must be a morning person because he's always got a smile first thing in the morning. Here he's ready at 7am sharp to head to school!
At the end of the day, E has really enjoyed an evening meal (usually given by Daddy thanks to the trusty bottle) and then splashing around in his bath tub with Mommy and Daddy as his lifeguards. They tag team the bath process, not so much because it takes two people to handle the little guy, but it's just a whole lot of fun for them to see E enjoying the water and laughing so much. Daddy is in charge of drying E off and getting him into a nice, warm sleeper for the night.

Pretty soon Mommy will be sending E to school with swimming goggles on.
